Wanuri Kahiu A native of Kenya, Wanuri Kahiu’s passion for film started at 16, when she worked on a documentary about female genital mutilation. After attending UCLA’s Master Programme in Film Directing, she directed her first film, the documentary The Spark that Unites (2006). Her first Kenyan film was the short Ras Star (2007). In 2008, she completed her first feature film, From A Whisper, then made a documentary about the life of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, For Our Land (2009).
