studiofilmclub
Since 2007, Studiofilmclub (SFC)—a weekly cine-club run by artist Peter Doig—has screened a special programme in conjunction with the trinidad+tobago film festival. Last year's programme had as its focus disco, and featured a conversation between British artist and curator Matthew Higgs and US music journalist and photography critic Vince Aletti. In 2009, the SFC programme was curated by Hilton Als, theatre critic for the New Yorker, and, in 2008, SFC showcased the work of the British-Caribbean artist-filmmaker, Isaac Julien. |
uwi
The University of the West Indies has been a programming partner of the trinidad+tobago film festival since 2009, with screenings of selected festival films at UWI's St Augustine campus. Last year, for the first time, one of the festival's workshops was held at UWI, a day-long session with acclaimed British-Caribbean novelist Caryl Phillips on adapting literature for film. Films made by students of the university's Film Programme also form part of the ttff's programme. |
community screenings
Apart from showing films at its four main screening venues—MovieTowne (Port of Spain and Tobago), Studiofilmclub and UWI—the festival also screens films at other, non-traditional venues across the country. Last year, screenings were held at such locations as San Fernando Hill, the Brazilian Embassy, the St James Amphitheatre, on the rooftop at the Carlton Savannah hotel, and at a number of community centres in Tobago. This year the festival intends to hold a greater number of community screenings in even more diverse locations. |
